Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about how I work, what I've done, and how to hire me.

Who is Jim Hollis, and what does he do?

I'm a growth marketing leader with 25-plus years in B2B SaaS and healthcare technology. I build marketing teams, fix attribution, and run paid media against what actually closes. I'm based in the Philadelphia area and open to remote work.

Is Jim open to full-time roles or consulting?

Both. I'm open to full-time leadership roles and to consulting work. If you're not sure which fits, tell me what you're working on and we'll figure it out. Here is where I'm most useful.

What does a growth marketing leader actually do?

They own the plan, the team and the numbers that connect marketing to pipeline and revenue. That means setting priorities, hiring an owner for each channel, picking the tools, and reporting on what closed, not just on clicks. I've built that function from scratch, most recently taking a two-person group to seven people.

How do you tie marketing to revenue?

I connect the marketing platform to the CRM so every lead can be traced to a closed deal. Then I report on closed revenue, not just leads. In one program, that work tripled the paid search lead-to-qualified conversion rate. Read the attribution case study.

How should paid media be measured?

By closed revenue, not platform cost per acquisition. Platform numbers count what the platform can see. The CRM shows what actually closed, so I move budget toward the campaigns that produce wins. Read the paid media case study or the blog post.

What tools does Jim work in?

HubSpot, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Eloqua and Salesforce, plus Claude and ChatGPT for reporting and repeat tasks. I focus on setting tools up so the data holds together, including UTM rules and lead routing.

How do you build a marketing team?

Hire a clear owner for each channel, give them honest numbers, and let them run. I've done that at three companies. At the last one, qualified lead volume grew 33% and then another 62% as the team grew. Read the team-building case study.

How do you use AI in marketing?

For reporting and the repetitive work that eats a week, such as benchmark reports, weekly updates and team roundups. I always test against the source data first, because early versions get numbers wrong. Read the AI case study.

What kinds of companies does Jim work with?

Growing B2B companies that want marketing tied to revenue, and leaders who want a straight answer on what is and isn't working. My experience is in healthcare technology, pharma, membership organizations and industrial B2B. I've marketed to health systems, health plans and pharma companies. I've also marketed to print and promo companies and to new entrepreneurs starting a business.

How does working with Jim start?

You send a note about what you're working on. We talk for 30 minutes, with no pitch deck. If I can help, I send a short written plan. If I can't, I tell you who can. More on working with me.
